History of the
Virginia Peninsula Chapter

As the economic and industrial growth of the Peninsula area increased, the need for a chapter on the Peninsula became more evident. Until the mid-seventies, Peninsula members had to cross from the Peninsula through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel to attend the Hampton Roads Chapter meetings in Norfolk.

In early 1974, the Hampton Roads Chapter started a study to determine the feasibility of spinning off a new chapter and in mid-1976 a meeting with the National staff was held. At this time, the preparation of a member industry survey was initiated.

A follow-up meeting in May 1977 served to review the items necessary for presentation and in early June the members' industry survey was approved.

At their June 1977 meetings, both the Executive Committee and the National Board of Directors granted a charter effective July 1, 1977, to the Virginia Peninsula Chapter.
